    mystery seat

who can let me know what kind of seat this is. the previous owner of my 78 GS 1000E sent it to me and it doesn't fit, so i was wondering if maybe i could modify to make it fit without destroying it or to much hassle. please let me know, or if you would like to swap for a new seat that would fit a 78 GS 1000E then please pm me
    thanks a lot

It looks like a GS1000 seat to me. Why doesn't it fit?

the hinges are just barely to small a good tweak and they would fit just fine but the seat lock post is about two inches two far back for were my seat lock is mounted can i move that without to much hassle and make it fit

              so

who thinks i should try to move the post to make it fit?
also i worry that the seat wrap might get damaged if a non fitting seat was put on
              thanks

It's definitely not an later 1000 seat I don't think... looks like my 78 seat from the side but not from the underneath.

Looks like a 77-79 GS550/750 seat. Probably a 78 GS550 due to the aluminum strip at the bottom. Those seats will fit both bikes with a little adjustment of the seat latch. The seat in the picture has obviously been recovered and it looks like a nice job. Dar

Early 750 (Pre-1980). I've hand made one of those seatpans. It took me two weeks and I can tell you I know every curve. LOL

They are fairly rare now in good condition. I'd be inclined to sell it if the pan is still good.

the pan is great everything is good on this seat but i would rather trade for a GS1000E seat as i got it as a gift and wouldnt feel right selling and keeping cash if anyone has a seat like that sitting around pm me

New GS750 seats are available from suzuki for around $300. New GS1000 seats are not. Just thought I would throw that out there. Dar
