    Should I get a new OEM petcock or do you guys have any other suggestions

    Im replacing a bad petcock, its been rebuilt already on a 1982 gs1100e, should i stick with the suzuki oem or do you guys have any better suggestions, the original is about 70.00 at flatout, ===

    I went with the Pingel option...cost about $100 and you have to remember to turn it of....
    But, it just looks and feels so damn sexy...

      Well, it's about $80 at Bike Bandit. You can shop around for better prices, but they will probably all be in the same ballpark.

      Many on this board favor the Pingle petcock, because it's manually-operated and won't cause problems. There are also many on this board that recommend staying with stock petcocks because they are not manually operated.

      It all depends on whether you want to train yourself to turn the gas on and off every time you ride. A stock petcock will do that for you.

        unless the stock one costs a lot more then I would just stick with that cause I just know I would come out after a visit some where and there would be gas every where.

          Thanks for the pic the pingel looks sweet, is it a bolt-on or do I have to make changes to the o-ring/attachment area under the tank???

            Pingel sells an adapter plate that bolts in the stock holes, no mods needed.
            I'd post a link, but I can't remember right now where I bought mine...

              A new Suzuki petcock will be fine for another 20 years or more if you don't let it sit for years at a time.

              Pingle will too.

              Will you always remember to shut it off?

              And turn it back on?

              Funny petcock story, my friend a long time ago got a Yamaha RD 350, when they were new.
              He parked it at the little swimming hole, jumped in.
              Another friend saw the bike leaking, shut off the gas.
              The bike's owner finished swimming and hopped on, rode it up and down a couple tiny dirt hills showing off for the chicks, and took off up the bigger hill to the parking area. Halfway up the bike died from lack of fuel, stopped and rolled a few feet backwards in gear, then fired and ran backwards for about a second or two, throttle was open. Backwards down the trail, into the lake at about the same time that he fell over anyway.

              The look on his face was never to be forgotten.

              The chicks were well impressed.

              I prefer Suzuki petcocks.

                I went with stock petcock. Bought it at www.cheapcycleparts.com
                For some reason, can't find parts for pre '87. You might need to give them a call.

                  We Pass more Gas! Pingel Enterprise has long been known for our fuel valves, also known as petcocks. This product is one of the first motorycle parts from Pingel manufacturing. Our valves set the standard for quality and high flow with substantially higher fuel flow than any other fuel valve made for motorcycles.


                  They do have a vacuum operated version now. I chose the manual shut off. I love mine and don't mind having to turn it off. I prefer it that way.

                    Z1 Enterprises sells a new aftermarket petcock for $48.75. http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1715 Not sure if it's as good as new from Suzuki but I expect it would work fine.

                      I ordered an OEM for mine $65.00, don't forget the little gaskets (part #4) for the bolts.
