charging system
would like to know when checking the charging system, does the voltage, using guidelines correctly slowly increase to a max. output. it is increasing as i leave my voltmeter on so do i just wait till it stops and go from that reading. i have a (duanage r/r on it which has worked perfectly before stored) battery died and wont charge. battery was checked and was ok'd.i may not have had a good connection, i found a loose bolt on battery but want to check before i hit the road. thanksTags: None

do not disconnect the battery cables with the bike running.
with the engine running @ 5,000 rpm, wait until the voltage reading stabilizes, that reading will be the voltage used to checking the charging system output.
what is that voltage?
where are my manners?... welcome aboard!Last edited by rustybronco; 03-28-2009, 09:40 PM.

So if you disconnect it while the bike is running, those spikes could get into the rest of the system and damage things ... expensive things like the igniter
So like RustyBronco said ... don't disconnect the battery cables with the bike running.
