    Socket size for rear axle

I want to replace my rear tire on my 1992 GSX1100G but I do not have metric sockets large enough to remove the rear axle nut and bolt. If anybody could tell me the size socket I need so I don't have to buy a bunch of sockets I would appreciate it. Thanks.

15/16 SAE will work, but i think its a 24 or 25mm in metric. I just use the SAE myself...

24mm metric. To convert 1" = 25.4mm or just type into google 24mm to inch & it will convert for you.

Thanks for the information. I have the factory manual and it looks fairly simple to do. Is it as easy as it seems to remove the tire?

          Hi Mr. kok09,

I bought a reeeeaaaly big Crescent wrench just for the axle bolts. Well, not really big, 12 inches or so. It makes it easy to get the bolts off. The first time I removed the rear wheel, I had no wrenches with enough leverage to remove the rear axle bolt. Just be careful not to over-torque them when reassembling. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you. It should answer more of your questions.

                Still need socket size

I bought both 24 and 25mm sockets and neither fit. Because the nut is recessed I can't put a wrench to it. If anyone could check their GSX and tell me the actual socket size I would appreciate it. I am getting tired of buying sockets that do not fit and I will never use again. Thanks.

I use a 7/8" box end on mine when I don't have metric available to me. I guess mine might be different than most.

Thanks to all. One of the forum members PM'd me and reminded me that a wrench came with the tool kit and he believed it was a 27mm. Sure enough I lifted the seat and found it in the tool kit which I had not touched since I took it home from the dealer in 1992. It is in a fact 27mm. Thanks to marvinsc.
