Have any of you used these? I have been thinking of looking into a lockhart cooler and was wondering if it needed an external pump or how it worked.........Just curious I guess

No you don't need any pump. I have a lockhart racing oil cooler and the kit comes with a new oil filter cover no replace the stock one. The racing version has braided lines and A/N fittings, while the street kit has rubber lines and barbed hose fittings. If you get just the oil cooler you can get fittings to replace the two bolts on either side of the filter cover. It is an easy instalation, especially if you get the complete kit. It will help to keep the bike cooler and also increase your oil capacity by another 1/2 litre.

I believe your motor is an 8-valve 1100. If so, you will not have the gallery fittings on each side of the oil filter housing. You will need to find or manufacture an adapter which replaces the oil pressure switch housing cover.
I added an oil cooler to my 83 850GL. I had been riding in alot of hot weather and figured the exta cooling could help. It definitely keeps the bike cooler. It did increase the oil capacity also. I had trouble with my oil pressure light when I added the cooler setup, so I intstalled an oil pressure gauge on the main gallery plug on the crankcase, just below the back side of cylinder number 4. It dropped the pressure slightly, but my oil pressure is still high enough within the specs in my factory manual. The setup I have is a partial flow, part of the oil goes to the cooler, the rest follows its normal route without the cooler.Comment

I had a look at Dennis Kirk and there's nothing listed for anything older than a '79. Where should I go to look into getting an oil cooler kit for my bike?Comment
