    1982 GS1100G Fork oil capacity

Does anyone have the spec for the front fork oil capacity for my 1982 GS1100G? My manual shows everything but mine. I just replace the seals, do you fill them compressed and then install the springs? Thanks great site

    Greetings and Salutations!!

    Hi Mr. 65chevelle,

I've got quit a bit of documentation on my website. The GS1100GK owners manual says the front fork oil capacity is 363ml (12.3oz). Yes, fill them compressed and measure the level to be sure they are the same, within 1mm or so. The easiest way to do this is to measure and cut off the tube from a spray bottle and stick it in the fork to pump out any excess. What I don't know is the proper oil level for your bike. Hopefully one of the 1100G owners will be along soon. So, how about I just roll out the welcome mat for you...

Please click here for your mega-welcome, chock full of tips, suggestions, links to vendors, and other information. Then feel free to visit my little BikeCliff website where I've been collecting the wisdom of this generous community. Don't forget, we like pictures! Not your, your bike!

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

The 1982 1100G and 850G use the same forks, so you can look up the level in the 850 manual as hosted by Mr. Cliff.

      To measure is to know.

My clymers manual has your bike listed for an oil level of 140mm or 5.5 in. This would be measured from the top of the fork when fully compressed, without the springs. Make sure the fork is vertical also.

          Thanks Ed!

          Hi Mr. 65chevelle,

Being the same forks as the 850, you'll use 251ml of fork oil, then measure as Mr. dr_fosg8 suggests.

The GS1100GK had beefier springs to handle the extra weight of the touring package. I apologize for making improper assumptions. Feel free to visit my site and help yourself to the information there. It's a community effort. I'm just the "pack rat".
