Backfire and missfire
I have a 1892 gs650. It runs very well for the most part. It however misfires (the rps drop 500rpm) every min or so. Also no matter how long i have the bike running, I will hear pops coming from the exhaust. Occasionally when this happens i will feel the airbox shake, assuming it is popping back into there as well. Not sure it is related at all but also if i accelerate quickly there is a small cloud that comes out of my exhaust, burnt oil. Is this a problem of my valuve seals? or cylinder seals? or just the normal part of an old bikeTags: None

I think I would check my valve timing...valve clearances, timing chain, cam alignment, etc... (especially the valve clearances - very important!) My bike's clearances were so bad I felt pushback from two of my carbs instead of suction. It was backfiring into the airbox like yours. Valve clearance ended up being a big part of my problem.
I'd also be checking for a good strong spark to make sure you are burning off all that fuel (assuming your carbs are working properly).

I can't seem to find a manual for the 1892 model, but most likely it would be carbs, petcock, or valve clearance.

re
lol yea i did mean 1982 ill check the valve gaps. I had plans of replacing all of my gaskets and valves this summer, i just need to get enough cash together to buy all the parts (the gaskets are freeking expensive!) As for the manual i have a digital copy. I assume it will be fine to drive on for a few more weeks to a month or two? i also burn some oil, i assume thats the same problem...
