    RPMs

Is it normal to be cruising in 5th gear at 5000rpms?

It's been awhile and everything "feels" right but I'm just not sure about that number.

    You were going how fast?
These engines need to spin, enjoy it.

Yeah, 5,000 rpm in 5th gear should have you at about 70 mph.

        Hi Mr. Kung Fu BBQ,

Yes, that's what I do all day long, 70mph @ 5000rpm. If your valve clearances are in spec and carbs in sync, you will be as smooth as glass.

        Thank you for your indulgence,
