    Hi,

Thanks to Ray (rapidray) for driving up and making sure I gave Dan (Gixxer Dan) the straight poop when it comes to checking and adjusting valve clearances. I also replaced the valve cover bolts with hex heads, installed new plugs, changed my oil and unplugged the drain hole in my airbox.

Ray was going to help me sync the carbs but since I didn't change any shims (after 7000 miles!) there really was no need. Only 3 clearances tightened up by .01mm. I'd say this motor is pretty stable. Here's a picture.

I've recently ordered new carb boots and O-rings and a bunch of other stuff. When that stuff gets here we're really going to party!

    Thank you for your indulgence,

    BassCliff

          Steve,

If you do turn left come on down to Las Cruces and I'll show you what life of the border is really all about.

I had a wonderful time hanging out with BassCliff and RapidRay for garage day. It greatly satisfied my indulgence for knowledge on checking valves I will definitely have more confidence doing my valve clearance checks this weekend without screwing things up to much. Now anyone up for some GMR riding?

MR BASSCLIFF.Have you ever considered making maintienence videos ? With the vast knowlege you posess on GS bikes it might be a great way to supplement your income. And teach the GS community how to properly service our bikes. WHATDOYATHINK?

I just wanted to let you all know that I'll be doing some regular maintenance to my bike on Saturday. If you'd like to pick my brains (Warning! Slim pickings!) and look over my shoulder while I change oil and check valve clearances, feel free to drop by. I also need to check/clean my fusebox, take some charging system measurements, and I can show you the coil relay mod. If you'd like to hang, PM me and I'll give you directions.

                  Thank you for your indulgence,

Cliff, would it be possible to photograph and post the coil relay details? I'm poor at reading electrical dwgs, need real life info. I have a new Duanage R/R ready to mount. Any help greatly appreciated.

                  Thanks,
                  Ted

Well, for one thing, the knowledge I possess is more like "half-vast".

I'm afraid that video production is beyond the scope of my time, talents, and resources. I'm also afraid that the market for GS instructional repair videos would be rather small. I prefer snapping a few pictures and sharing what I learn. I'm pretty good at being a parrot, collecting and sharing information through my website, and generally tooting my own horn. But pretty much everything I know about GS bikes I have learned from the good and helpful people in this forum. I like giving back to the community.

There's really not much to add to the documentation that's available on my site. I was a little intimidated at first, cutting into my wiring harness , but once I got in there it was very self-explanatory. The next time I have the tank off I'll snap a few of pictures and see if I can clarify the documentation already on my site. Thanks for the suggestion.

                    Thank you for your indulgence,

                    BassCliff

Pics of mine here & on the following page:

Red goes to a blade fuse to the battery direct. Blue goes to the battery Neg direct.

The other two wires (inside the plastic fluted wire wrap) Go up the underneath of the frame tube, one (the trigger) joins into the Orange whites that normally feed the coil where they leave the harness (about halfway along the tank), the other relay switched live (from 87 on the relay) goes to the right side coil & there is a link that joins that to the left hand coil.

                      Works great.
