Valve adjustment and carb rebuild at same time?
Possibly a dumb question but can one do a carb rebuild and a valve adjustment at the same time? It seems like the time waiting for shims in the mail would match well with the time needed to soak the carbs.Tags: None

Sounds like a good plan to me. Don't forget to order: O-ring kit from cycleorings.com including intake boot O-rings, float bowl gaskets and pilot plugs from Z1 Enterprises or similar, and valve cover gasket.Ed
To measure is to know.

You bet!
I did it when I bought each of my bikes. It will be double fun when you crank 'her' up!! (If you want triple fun, change the fork oil, too!)1980 GS1100E....Number 15!

Well it sounds like I have the makings of two or three nights of brew sippin' and bike wrenching. Sweet!

Make sure you stuff a rag in the cam chain tunnel and remember to remove it before buttoning things up.

If you would like some help with your valve adjustment, send me an E-MAIL REQUEST (click on my name for E-MAIL ADDRESS info) for my Excel spreadsheet that will help you with the math to compute the necessary shims. It will also help you keep track of what shims are in your engine from one service interval to the next.

And don't forget to balance everything out in the end (carb sync). I've always felt a valve adjustment and carb sync go hand in hand.
