2008 daytona 200, I rode my bike there and watched the race. I was so excited that I parked the bike and locked the forks with the key turned to the right. I wasnt thinking. When it was time to leave a few hours later, dead battery. Luckily there was a bunch of venders and some custom chopper display had a jumper box on hand that I quickly borrowed.

Ignition switch-- The ignition switch has four positions, off all electrical circuits off.On position the ignition circuit is completed, the headlight and tail light will automatically come on.Parking position, turn handlebar all the way to left or right push down key to park position. The key can now be removed and tail light will remain lit and steering will be locked. This is for night time roadside parcking to increase visibility.Lock position, turn handalbar to left or right push down key to the lock position remove key and all circuits are off. This comes from a 1981 gs1100 owners manual, also it states that you come to a full stop before you put it in park or lock... Who would have thought...
