Hello guys, last night i started to do my mait on my 1982 gs 850 l thanks cliffs web site ( GREAT WEB SITE IF IT WAS NOT FOR HIM I WOULD BE COMPLETELY LOST) SO ANY WAYS WHEN TO CHANGE MY OIL AND THE RECOMMENDED OIL FILTER FOR MY BIKE IS THE FRAM CH 6000 WISH I KHOW IS THE RIGHT ONE BECAUSE I HAVED USED IT BEFORE. HERE IS THE KICKER I GOT THE FRAM CH6000 WHENT HOME STARTED TO CHANGE THE OIL AND IT WAS TIME TO PUT THE OIL FILTER ON. GUESS WHAT THE OIL FILTER WOULD NOT GO ON. SO ILOOKED AT THE BOXES( IKEEP THE OLD ONE JUST IN CASE) AND IT ALL MATCH, INTEL I LOOKED AT THE DIAMATER OF BOTH FILTERS AND MY NEW ONE WAS SMALLER I THOUGHT THAT MAYBE THEY PACKED IT WRONG SO I WHEN BACK TO THE PARTS STORE AND I CHECKED ALL OF THE FRAM CH 6000 AND GUESS WHAT I FOUND OUT THAT THIS FILTER COMES IN TWO DIFFERNT SIZES EVEN DO THE HAVE THE SAME PART NUMBER! SO THIS IS WHAT I DISCOVERD IF ON TOP OF THE FILTER ITS SAYS THIS NUMBER THEN THIS IS THE BIGGEST DIAMETER ATJ 124 AND IF IT SAYS THIS NUMBER ATJ 123 THAT IS THE SMALLEST DIAMETER. HAS ANYBODY HEARD OR SEEN THIS I THOUGHT IT WAS REALLY WEIRD. THE GUY AT THE COUNTER COULD NOT EVEN EXPLAIN IT BUT ANYWAYS I THOUGHT EVERYBODY SHOULD KNOW A BOUT THIS. THANKS AND GOOD LUCKTags: None

I get mine from advance auto ( fram ch 6000) and they've always fit no problems. matter of fact I just changed mine yesterday and no problem. they even keep them separate from the regular autombile filters.

He's right. It happened to me once also with a fram ch6000. The internal diameter of the rubber was too small. I brought it back and we compared there other filters and only this one was smaller. It did look a little different though. If I remember right the stamp of where it was made was different.
I think I'm done with fram anyway after some of what I've read on this site.

Good info, and further confirmation that Fram filters are JUNK. I've used them several times, but filtration isn't all that critical when you have to change oil every 2,000 miles anyway.
Napa auto parts sells a nice filter made by Wix -- PS4931.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.

2015 Yamaha FJ-09, Magma Red Power Corrupts...
Eat more venison.

the fram is also known for coming with substandard O-rings as well, randomly the O-ring will be to small in diameter and won't seal.
lots of info on internet about fram substandard filters, all of them, not just motorcycle.

The only time I've used Fram filters on a bike is when I've been on long trips, and it was the only "port in the storm" so to speak while I changed oil in an Autozone's parking lot. I've done that three times.
They did the job every time, but I prefer the oem Suzuki filters if I can get them at a reasonable price.sigpic

Lots and lots and lots of OEM filters...
(In case anyone's wondering, Griffin lucked into yet another one of those patented Griffin-style deals, and now we both have a large box of Suzuki oil filters, which should see us through a winter or two. Thanks, Griffin!)1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
