    Ignitor Location???

I am trying to trace some spark issues. I cant seem to locate the Igniter... Is it the same as the rectifier that my manual referres to?

Is it on the panel with all the other elec components?

Anyone have a pic of it in it's proper location?

Yours appears to be a '78 from the pic in your signature. If so and you have points style ignition there is no ignitor.

Typically its under the right hand side cover. Doesn't your bike have the martek ignition? Yours should have a CDI box which I gather has a similar function to the ignitor. Take a look at this link, does your ignition look like this

Left click on the image it will get bigger and you can see the diagram and instructions.

almarconi is correct. My bike had been converted to MARTEK electronic ignition.

trying now to compare to the schematic almarconi has provided.

          Still no luck...

Hey almarconi, do you have links to any more info on that MARTEK? I don't seem to have that "MOTOTEK CDI" unit on my bike.

I have traced the wires from the rotor unit on the right side of the bike along the underside of the engine, up through the front of the battery box area where it exits as three wires. One pale yellow, one white and one black. The pale yellow believe it or not connects to a clip underneath and connected to what my service manual says is the blinker unit (how odd). The white and black wires clip to two wires that enter into the wiring harness and appear to re exit the harness and connect to either coil.

Any ideas? Ideas from others welcome as well!

The Martek does not have an ignitor. That large ring inside the ignition cover is both the signal generator and the ignitor all in one.

BTW, I have a spare Martek ignition that came with a bike purchase. If you find out yours is bad, and want to gamble on an unproven one, let me know. You can have it for the cost of shipping.
