    gs450 running problems

hey am pretty new to this and i have recently received a 1980(i think)gs450l from a friend. the bike was very nearly a basket case and after a bit of a rebuild it now runs, unforunately it runs like a sack of spanners, idle speed is fine but as soon as i open the throttle even a fraction it starts running rough and backfiring through the left hand carb any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Did you dip the carbs and install new o-rings? Also check the valve adjustment. Forum member Steve has a pretty awesome spread sheet for doing the valve adjustments.
    I didnt do it I swear !!

been through the carbs and had them double checked by a friend, changed the o rings and checked valve adjustment all ok . been told by another friend that it may just be down to the airbox and if i fit a set of filters (that he provided free of charge) it may just rectify the problem, is there any truth in this

You've been through the carbs ? You mean you dipped and cleaned them ?

Did you adjust the valves ? How do you mean that they're ok ? Why the question mark face ??

If you install pods, re-jetting of the carbs will be required.
