gs 650 sticky tranny
hey every one helping a buddy working on a gs 650 he got from me. when i got the bike the tranny was fine. i let it sit out side in the winter and now when you pull the shifter up or down its sticky and instead of moving to the origanal position it just will stick up or down. the gears do shift. and there is not missing engine parts so water in there i would think is out of the question.Tags: None

did the bike get stored over winter on the side stand??? If it sat for a long time on the kick stand that leans most of the oil to the other side of the bike. There is a spring and gear for the shifter under the clutch cover behind the clutch. It may have corruded up a bit. Also check the cover that the shifter passes thu on the shifter side...it might be binding there also...??

Behind the clutch basket there is a spring that returns the shifter to the middle. i'd check that first.1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

well i will have to look into that spring do you have to take any parts off or is it just hanging out there some were. it could be the oil level to. there was like barly any oil in it because i tiped over for a day when i was at work and when i got home there was a oil puddle i havent added any yet. another thing im kind of curious about is i can get it to fire up and idle right away and i know that the number 3 pipe is cold so i know theres a problem there. at the moment i cant get it to rev past 2 grand. last year it would rev up really really slowly and it wouldnt have enough power to move its self. does that sound like something that one carb would do. i plant to rebuild them all but just wondering if i may have another problem.

as for the revving and idle issue. I would start with rebuilding the carbs, then make sure your valves are adjusted properly. After you do those 2 things, there will probably be nothing else wrong, but in any case...it is a good starting point.
