For the record these things would be AWESOME for you "normal" baffle folk, the fact they are like tight elastic bands would make this job a snap, just slide on maybe 4-5 of them on your baffle, no wire tie needed, bam, plus stainless, may never have to do it again!

So as far as the 5km ride to work is concerned it took the 2000-4000 buzzy tinny twang out of it. Still a tad loud for me but at least it sounds loud-performance rather than loud-crappy.
I will go for a more extended ride then post pix of how the sponges are holding up.

Common Reels: The simplest form of stainless steel wool is a continuous roving, 4 inches wide on reels. This product meets all of the physical demands for exhaust applications, but is presented in a basic form requiring the muffler manufacturer to do all of the processing and assembly.
Actually anything will work it is more a matter of how often yopu want to change it. On a hp motor it could change your jetting requirements.

Only thing I can find are the little rolls used in paint sections of hardware stores, I have NO IDEA on ANYTHING other than this.

3 stores FAIL for telling me that yes they stock stainless steel wool and instead it is normal steel and looks like it is quite fine even though it says "course"

Couldn't you buy some metal sheet mesh like they use under brick or stone on house walls. I don't know what the stuff is called, but you could wrap that between the two outlets from end cap to the reducer or whatever that thing is. Use some safety wire every few inches and then wrap the stainless wool over that. Probably worth safety wiring the wool as well.GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES

I actually was just looking at some bondo mesh backing and was thinking something similar, I need something stiffer though, that stuff might work. I cant find stainless wool anywhere, this town is nuts, I have 4 "super center" type hardware stores and not one of them has even HEARD of stainless steel wool...
My scrubby pads look brand new still, true I only rode about 10km but still it is shiny as the pix still...
Maybe I will just hunt for those.
I will "steel" your mesh idea though thanks!

Try asking for bronze wool. It doesnt rust either.

For anyone who cares, it has been 3-4 days with the stainless steel "pot scubbers" and the look the same, I have put about 50km on it (I know but my ride to work is only 10k) and ridden as hard as I could.
They have black on them but it rubs off, still shiny as new underneath.
The ones I ended up getting after I ran out of the above are "Hero" brand from Canadian Tire, $2 for a pack of 3. Like my pictures above they are spiral wound so they can be stretched over the baffle and left there with no tie wraps, just keep stuffing them on there until you have the amount you want. I used 7 on mine, so $6 and 2 spares to wash pans with, ha ha.
I will repost when I have a few 100 kms on it.
It has taken almost ALL the buzziness out, and i think I may actually pull a few out as I almost liked it better with the three lumps in the pic above than with it stuffed full.
Not sure if anyone beleives/cares, but a cheap alternative to stainless wool (about 30-40 bux a pound from what I found) IF you can find it.
The normal steel wool looks like it may be cheaper, and obviously works as per the post about it on here. But hey we are comparing $4 to $6 here
