Larry, when I had a larger pilot jet in one of my carbs, one size up larger than the stock jet (long story) I had to set my screw on that carb to almost seated for it to run right and not foul the plug out on that cylinder.

Maybe someone has put one size up larger pilot jets in your bike at one time or another ?

EDIT: I just thought of this.... maybe they have put the wrong pilot jets in there. I say that because I had a local shop order one for me and they ordered one that looked almost like my other 3 pilot jets, but it was made different.

I'm no expert, just trying to offer up things to look for. Stock pilot jets on my bike are #40.

I'm starting to come to the same conclusion. The weather been so nice and the bike is running well, just not great. The weather man says it should be raining here early next week, so I'm going to pull the carbs and check it out.
I'm pretty certain someone has been inside them at some point and it's entirely possible they installed larger pilots in a vain attempt to get the bike to run better.

what is the idle supposed to be set at? its all about the a/f mixture so if your bike is running prime at what you have set that is about all you can do unless your rejet and tune again
