    Gasket Confusion...

From the suzuki dealer, i ordered a head gasket. Turns out, it's not the right one, but the dealer insists it has made no fault. OEM Part No. 11173-34212 this is for a GS650GX, which I do in fact have. It's kind of odd, because 99% of the bolt holes are lining up, including the placement pin on the block with the gasket. Pictures coming soon. http://photobucket.com/GasketConfusion Couldn't figure out how to upload pictures, so here's the link to the pictures.

Sorry, in my infinite rage, I suppose I forgot to actually say. There's something funky about 1 of the bolt holes in the gasket, it's just plain in the wrong spot. But the suzuki dealer is convinced that I'm "Not placing the gasket right" Yea, it's possible to have it flipped the wrong way etc. But I had the shop down the street take a look at it, and they even agree, it's not correct... My question is, different engine, split year or what.

There are two different gaskets for the 650. Sometime in '81 they added another bolt, hence the two different gaskets. If you look on the fiche from alphasports ( http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm ) or others you will see two different part numbers. The 'fiche indicates that the difference starts with ~F(rame?).NO.103560. I think you need part no. 11173-34202 instead.

The gasket you received is for the later 650s, you need one for the 1981 650. Quite simply you have 16 bolts holding down the valve cover while the later has 17 bolts. Take it back and ask for a 11173-34202, should be correct number for gasket.
