What do you think of this head gasket??

I ordered an OEM head gasket for my 750LX & picked it up from the dealer tonight...

I don't have any experience with these things, but it has some "depressions and/or gouges" in it (see attached pic). At $65 a pop, I was a bit miffed & questioned the kid about the condition & whether or not it it would leak.

He said they get compressed anyway & the marks were no big deal. He offered to re-order another one if I wanted, but I said "maybe" & took it home to ask you guys...

So, should I be concerned or it this normal stuff?? I don't want to have to remove the head again just to replace a head gasket I shouldn't have used.

Probably ok but given the risk of an oil leak at that spot, I wouldn't risk it.

It's supposed to be flat , with an even surface

        I'd call that one damaged

The gasket does not compress that much (so those dents would seal up)

Well I wouldn't use it . The dent in the upper right of the picture pointing toward the cylinder opening cinches it for me. It's too much work to put it all back together tune it up only to have it leak. I'd bring it back and get it replaced.

For that kind of money it should be in perfect condition. I wouldn't chance it, too much work to replace. Since you don't use sealer on a head gasket if the gasket leaks your screwed. Something probably fell on it and put those dents in it. I would take it back and ask for a replacement.

And if you use it and it leaks you're out $65. Take it back.

Plus the time and aggravation to replace it.
