    Compressing piston rings

    After searching up a storm on here, I'm left with one probably very dumb question:

    When you use a hose clamp (or even a fancy ring compressing tool) to compress the rings before slipping the cylinder block back on (easier said than done I'm sure), don't the rings just kinda "sproing" back out the minute you take the tool off? Or do the rings stay compressed once you cinch em down?

    Thanks. Tonight I'm re-installing my freshly bored & honed cylinder block over brand new .05mm pistons. Fingers very, very crossed.

    You compress the rings and slide the pistons into the cylinders. When the rings "spring" out, they will be in place, in the cylinders.

      The spring compressor stays put till all of the rings are pushed up into the champfered end of the cylinder.

      You want to snug the hose clamp so that there is a little foce required to push it down on the ring. To little and it will fall off with the first little pressure.

          You don't take the hose clamp off - it slides down the piston, driven by the bottom of the cylinder

          Once it's down around the rod, then take it off

          Start with #2 and #3
