    Rough idle when on side stand

    I had my bike running really well for weeks and now it runs rough when its not sitting level. Very rough idle no throttle response, I tip it up level and its fine...any clues to why this would happen? thanks if you can help

    Only rough on the side stand or both lean angles? Water in the carbs maybe? Run 50ml of metholated spirates in a full tank of fuel to try and flush out the water. It mixes with the water and then burns. Or just spend a afternoon pulling and cleaning the carbs.

        Yeah, you have an issue with a particular carb or carbs. I suspect that it may be water also. When you tip it the water, which normally sits in the bottom of the bowl, is able to get into the sytem and cause the bike to misfire.

        I had a tank full of water from a dodgy bowser recently (goddamn motherf*&^ers) and I first noticed it whilst leaning into a corner. I have since pulled the carbs and tank and flushed it all out.

        Because I cleaned the carbs recently I just pulled the bowls off, removed the floats, needles and jets and flushed WD40 and compressed air through to get all the water out. Flushed meths through the tank (as Sharpy said) after emptying out the old fuel and with fresh fuel it fired up and runs like a dream.

        You may also just have a sticking float from a bit of grit. Pull the carbs and remove the bowls first. Then take out the floats and clean the needles. That may do it.

        Sorry for the longwinded response but this is very fresh in my brain at the moment, just did it last weekend.

          +1 on the float levels AND water.....

          my circle burner stock car was doing the same thing and we found water in the fuel cell.....since fuel floats on top of the water, if you pull the fuel line off the petcock while it sits on the center stand you should drain about 1/4 of the tank and use it as weed killer around your driveway/sidewalk!

          I generally use a little "Heat" in a gas can of fuel before I EVER fill up my bike now. Living in a small town means that the fueling station will allow their tanks to run pretty empty before they fill it back up! I might top it off now and then, but I usually always put enough octane boost and/or heat into a 5 gallon can and then fill it up when I fill up my truck so that I have good gas for my bike.

          If I'm driving into a larger town/city I'll usually just fill up with a little octane boost!

            Wouldnt that cause condersation? Always run meth about every 5 tanks just to be sure and use Redex EVERY tank just to lube everything. Redex is a upper cylinder lube here in aussie land but anything will do. http://www.noelsautoparts.com.au/Redex%20Products.htm (bottom red bottle)

                Thanks for the answers...I have to try tipping the bike to the other side to see if it does the same thing before I pull the carbs apart. I would have never suspected water.

                  "Heat" is a fuel additive that removes water from your fuel!!!

                    If it's only water in the carbs I would remove the petrol in the them via the drain plugs - a lot easier than removing and stripping the carbs if they don't need doing!

                        I tried that a few times but the fuel and water had emulsified and the bottom of the bowls were coated in 'white jelly'.
