We jumped it and barely got it going so I could take it around the block to be sure nothing major was wrong.

It ran really poorly between the gummed up carbs from sitting for three years and the competely bad battery...I got back and said "Boy I don't know it'll take a lot of work...what would you say to $500?" ...."OK"

Wow, its got a Yosh slip on that is probably worth almost that!!!

I got some carb cleaning to do, but other than fluid changes etc I will be set. The tires were new when he parked it...only a couple years old and still with "tire hairs" ! Pics to follow...
Much cheaper than fixing that old GS, way to go!

    Pictures!!!

I passed one last summer on my way back from the Red River Rally on the side of the road for sale...all there, but surely need some work and paint. I think they were asking $600 for it....I was sorely tempted...even knocked on the door but no one answered....Fate...

Ive always thought they were kinda neat lookin bikes with that bug eyed fairing. Dont think id fit on a 600 for very long tho...

I'm surprised at how well I do fit on it. I'm about 6'4" and if I slide my butt all the way back on the seat I fit well. The clipons are still a reach, I honestly don't know how someone much smaller would be able to ride it without killing their arms.

I am still planning on trying to figure out what's going on with the GS though, I feel like I owe it to the bike! It shifts through all the gears without any grinding, popping, etc. its almost like there is some sort of return spring broken or something I'm hoping someone on here will be able to provide some insight. I'd like to get it going again and pass it on to someone who will ride it and love it.

            As promised:

OK, so its not a Suzi or a GS, but it does have a Yosh slipon!

Tom, if you think you might be interested in it PM me or call me some time and we'll chat. I really don't want it to go to the wreckers, but I'm far more interested in getting the FZR sorted out first before worrying about the 450.

I'm gone, traveling for a couple weeks.
I would like to take that 450,
                if the price is right.

                really right.

Your shift forks may be bent or mangled. If a piece can off them then that may have been the bang you heard as it found it's way through the transmission. Just a guess of course.

Just give me a call when you are back in town and we'll see if we can't come to a meeting of the minds. It ran great (still does when it has gas in it), so if we can figure out the tranny issue it should be back in business. Of course the other option is to find either another 450 engine to swap in or better yet a GS500 is a direct bolt in and about a 25% increase in hp!

                    Have a fun trip!
