I REALLY need a tank in better shape than mine. I took it to get painted and the dents taken out, and they said it's not worth their trouble and it'll probably get messed up trying to fix it. And they also said it'll cost more than a new tank would cost.

Will a '79 GS1000L fuel tank fit on '79 GS1000?
Anybody know if a '79 GS1000L fuel tank will fit on '79 GS1000? I compared part numbers on bikebandit.com and they didn't match, but I wanted to ask you guys before I gave up hope of this cheap swap. Also, is this even a good idea, is it the same size? The picture looks like it, but I'm not sure. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-...1%7C240%3A1318

It will not fit - too small. I'd get a second opinion on the tank. Or - take some pics and post them here, you'll get plenty of opinions

it may not fit in the original orientation, but there are provisions on the frame of the bike to mount ALL tanks for all trim models, or at least there was on my L model. the L hase the front "ears" on the backbone of the frame.
