GS750 carb #2 flowing fuel.
'78 GS750. I cleaned the carb float bowls and replaced the FB gaskets. #2 carb still flows fuel out of the drain tube. What did I do wrong. It has a 4 into 1 exhaust and run smooth. It had set for a couple of years outside.

Put a stick or something up against the #2 bowl and tap it with a small hammer or something.
If the fuel is still leaking after the engine is shut off, you have a petcock issue.

Try a BFH. I would replace the float needles or at least swap them around, double check the float adjustment

You only cleaned the bowls, you did not clean the carbs.
Yeah, there might have been some crud in the bowls, but that's not what gets plugged up to make the carbs not work. As you are finding out first-hand, taking shortcuts while trying to do carb cleaning (or charging system checking) only means that you will be doing it again (and again) until you do the job properly. Please follow the CV Carb Cleaning Guide and you should not have any more problems with your carbs.

Possibility of two separate problems, yes. Correct.
1. Free flowing gas out the vent tube means the float is either stuck or not adjusted correctly, or the float needle is stuck in the open position or missing.
2. If it has an OEM petcock and turned to "prime," or if it has an on/off aftermarket petcock it will flow gas in the "on" position when the bike is not running.
How clean is the gas tank? If it has not been cleaned or sealed the problem can become a constant battle. Preference is treatment with POR15.Last edited by Guest; 05-13-2009, 01:35 PM.
