Is this right??
Shouldn't this be plugged up???? There is one on the number one carb as well that isn't.

My plug fell out on my 1983 Suzuki 750e. Only one though. I would seal it so it doesn't get crud in there and seize up.

1st, those are the #3 and #4 carbs, count from the left as you sit on the bike
There should be an identical port between #1 and #2
Do not cap them off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just leave them unplugged ,or run a line as Tkent indicates
The big question is - do you have a line on the similar appearing vacuum port on the other side of #3 carb? The line should run from that port to your petcock1978 GS 1000 (since new)

I do have the one connected to the petcock. I thought maybe this was causing the bad midrange throttle response.

Need to get a manual!!
Find a thread where Basscliff has his links to his site. It is very informatative! Read all of it and then follow the directions on cleaning the carbs once you understand them. His site is the best!!

These are VM22 carbs off a 550.
- The two outer lines are vents
- The fat center line is for gas from the petcock
- The smaller line near the fuel line, on the #3 carb is the vacuum port that goes to the petcock

Ok. I guess I am going to have to get the rebuild kits for the carbs, and follow the procedure for cleaning them.

What a dope I am, I though you were addressing the mixture screw, of which mine are plugged. I'd put a hose on the piece as it will give the gas a way to go in case you leave the bike on "prime" (if it has that) or the petcock fails. Sorry.
