    Fuel Meter Malfunction

Hey I have an 86 GS550ES and my fuel gauge does not work. Whenever I turn the ignition on, the gauge pegs out on full, so I disconnected the sender wires. I had the sender out of the tank and hooked it up and it seems to work fine. Could this be a bad grounding issue? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx!

Hey- got my gauge figured out. On the sending unit there is a metal cover that clips on, well stupid me put it on backwards. So, the sender was shorting out and making the gauge read full all the time. Thanks for the info, though.
