    Carb Troubles

I have a 1981 GS 750L that i am having troubles with. I just got my carburetor kits in the carburetors and back on the bike.I put them on with out the air box just to see if the thing would run right. After a lot of cranking it finally started and idled fine, but when you try to throttle it up it just bogs down and dies. I didn't know if running with out an air box matter that much, or if i have other problems ?

Bike will run like crap without the airbox. Reinstall everything properly and try again.

        First of all,

BassCliff will be along shortly with his 'official' Mega-welcome.

One definite problem is trying to run without the airbox. For a quick check, fold a shop rag in half, drape it over the carb intakes, clamp it to the outboard carbs with zip-ties and try again. This will work well enough for a quick ride around the block, but is not accurate enough for jetting checks.

One possible problem is your carb kits. Most of them do not include nearly enough o-rings to do the complete job and some of the brass pieces might be of questionable quality. A far better process to refurbish the carbs can be found here. A member of this forum sells complete o-ring kits for the carbs and intake boots on his site: www.cycleorings.com. Very reasonable prices (less than the cost of one of your 'kits') and quick service.
