    Outside Temperature ever to hot to ride???

    Hi All...
    Being still new to the forum and the hobby, one question came to mind with the anticipation of the summer weather...
    With an air cooled bike, is there ever an outside temp not ideal for our bikes? Does it hurt our bikes in really hot weather to ride them?
    Sorry if it is a dumb question, but am curious.

    I ride here in temps in the high 30's (100 F) and have ridden many times into the 40's (100+ F).

    Make sure your bike is well maintained (oil, filters etc) and avoid sitting in traffic with the bike idling for too long on hot days. There's a reason they got the 'bulletproof' tag. The bike will be fine but you'll need regular water breaks.

      I almost melted a head heading up a mountain in 115F temps.
      It did spit out a head gasket.
      1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
      1985 GS1150ES stock with 85 Red E bodywork.

          Just make sure you're jetted correctly

            Use synthetic oil, don't stop and idle for long, the bike will be fine unless you have messed with the jetting. The rider is on on whole nother story. Water, lots of it, pour it into your clothing, become a human swamp cooler. Drink a ton of it. Don't get hot and stupid.

              bingo!! when it is hot out it is best to be a bit on the rich side, rich equals lower combustion temps.

              a camel back hydration system is very important especialy in dryer climates where the dry hot air will suck the water out of every por. in the summer heat it is very easy to get dehydrated and heat exhaustion/ stroke quickly on a bike.

                agree with all said. The only concern I have when the temps are hot here 95+ is with the mellon on the bike drying out and getting "foggy".

                By the way, textile is much "better" when the temps get hot.

                    At temps from 45-80 I'de say it's a "watermelon".

                    At temps above 90...it is about the size of a Muskmelon and probably about the same consistancy.
