Removing airbox on 1985 GS 550L
I am trying to remove the air cleaner box on my gs550L Any suggestions of the best way to get it out? Do I have to remove the battery box? Thanks TravisTags: None

If it's anything like the '85 GS550E/ES (which has the same engine, carbs, & airbox), you have to remove the swingarm. It's possible that just removing the shock & all the linkages would do it, but I'm not sure. Certainly the battery box and the carbs as well. The entire bike was built around the airbox.

On my '81 550L the igniter module is mounted to the bottom of the airbox so if you're not intending to reinstall it I think you will have to fabricate a mount for it.

Hi,
You may have to remove the carbs first in order to give you room to get the airbox out.
What does the manual say?
Thank you for your indulgence,

I just have the Suzuki Service manual and it doesn't really say anything. I have a Clymers on order and set to arrive anyday. Are some of you guys running without an airbox?

Well I got it off without fully disassembling the bike. I took out the battery box and was able to finess it out through the left side of the bike (if your sitting on it). Prior to removing the box I had removed the boot covers to the carbs.
