one day to fix my carbs or no New england ride for me HELP!
Had this one carb on my flatslides that would leak out the overflow tube if i left the gas on and the bike sat. Too k it apart and installed the float needle ,float, and needle seat from my cv 36 mm carbs . Started it it ran on all four. went 500 ft and its running on three. ok that combo of parts wont work so I go back re install the old seat ,needle and float, started it and it only fires on three cyl. changed plugs they all have good spark . I did re adjust the float level in that carb ould that be the trouble ? I set it at 17mm converted to 680 ths. Is this the right conversion from metric to inches? hellpppp I only have 6 hrs after work today to fix this or no New england gs ride for meTags: None

Are you measuring the distance between needle and float contact or the distance of float travel?
Your conversion rate is close, but 680 thou is nearly 3/4 inch and you don't have that much space between the needle and float.
I am sure you already know it, but while you have it open, check for a bit of dirt on the seat or needle. That is a likely source of problem.Bertrand Russell: 'Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education.'

Skip you do have the carbs upside down when measuring the floats? You need to measure from the top(actually bottom) of the float to the flat surface on the carb body. I checked your math... .680 sounds right to me if 17 mm is correct. Its around 21mm on the stocker. On your needle the spring is good...your floats when upside down have the bounce to them?? If not your needle is shot. Use berrymans carb spray if cleaning...its much stronger than most. Is there a chance you have a hole in a float?? Skip I know you work on these things as much as I or anyone else...not doubting your abilities at all just hoping maybe I could add something to help you. I`ve went brain dead before and had someone else look at something and couldn`t believe I was that dumb not to see it. Good Luck!

17mm is from my RS instructions. One other place fuel could be getting past is the o-ring on the valve body. They do harden and shrink with age and sometimes when reinstalling them you can shave a tiny bit off the edge of the ring.

What height are the other 3 floats set at? All 4 should be the same, maybe the 2 inner are a bit different, adjust to the other appropiate float and check for dirt.
