    Clutch Basket Cog

Which way up does this drive cog go? The microfiche doesn't really show a lot of detail...

One side has a "lip" or upstand on it - I didn't pay attention when I took it off! Does it go up (so when fitted it's closest to the engine cases) or down (so when fitted the lip is closest to the clutch basket.

In the pics above I have it facing what I am calling "UP"

    Cheers,

    Dan

If this is for the 750 the top picture looks right.

Yes, for the 750 but your pic seems to show the opposite Billy - a smooth surface, no lip. In this case the lip must be facing down if that the same cog. That's the same pic I have in the manual but I just wanted to double check...

The opposite of my pics actually does make more sense as it would space the gear away from the back of the basket towards the oil pump (I think) which would seem to be what the manual says.

That gear looks like the idler gear for the oil pump, the top gear in the pic below. The gear rests on a bearing on the shaft. The bumps on the gear at 12 and 6 o'clock in the pic go into the slots on the back of the clutch basket. It's important to get these to line up so that your oil pump works properly. Might want to rotate the crank a rev or two once you get the clutch basket installed to make sure the oil pump gears are rotating correctly.

It's a little different to yours on the 750 but does the same job! Great idea on trying the line up & rotating the crank to be sure...
