VM29 Smoothbores on GS1000
Do they really make that much of a difference on my GS1000 compared to the stock ones? I don't know, because I haven't got the parts in yet to finish rebuilding them. I know they were dirty, and the bike was running terribly in the mid range of throttle. Keep in mind I have only had the bike for about 3 weeks now. I am pretty sure that the bike will run good after reinstalling them all cleaned up with new rubber parts, and with the pod filters cleaned and oiled. But I don't have a stock baseline, so if anyone can chime in that has ridden a GS1000 with/without them, I would appreciate a comparison. Thanks.Tags: None

Hey Ray how do you tell what size VM carbs you have? I have VM carbs on my gs1000, I also have a rack of CV carbs off another GS1000 will they interchange? Which is the better carbs for regular riding? I'm not real fast, more of a sight see'er.

My 1000S came with VM29's when I bought it. Took them off, rebuilt them all pretty, and sold them on ebay for more than $600. Found some stock BS34's (stock on my particular bike) and put the extra cash into my restoration fund.
My opinion is to stay with the stock carbs unless you have a modified engine and want to run the bike hard. For more sedate types, the smoothbores are a waste of money in my opinion.Ed
To measure is to know.
