right side engine oil leak
ok heres the deal i have a 80 gs1100L and after longish rides at 3500 to 4k an oil leak starts from the right side sig genorator cover ...... i did some inspecting and found the seal behind the advance weights to be leaking ....... my ? is can i replace this repair with the motor in the bike or do i have to disasimble the engine as it looks like the seal gets instaled from the crank case side ......

you can replace that seal without pulling the motor. you'll probably have to put a sheet metal screw or two into the outside raised area to have a "handle" to pull it out. Use caution b/c of the roller bearing behind it - don't put anything in too far. the new one goes straight back on over the crank.
not sure if you can get away without draining the crankcase if you leave it on the sidestand or not. but it was probably almost time for an oil change anyway?
