    drive shaft flange thread locker

What "flavor" of thread locker (Loctite or other brand) should I use on the bolts that mate the drive shaft to the output flange on the motor of my 79 GS850?

I would use whatever is recommended in the service manual.

Problem is, the manual is rather unclear as to which is which.

I believe you want the red high strength stuff here -- steel threads in a highly critical spot.

Ive never used any, its not like they can rotate out... only vibration will be an issue... 4,000 k's and they never came loose yet.

Service manual calls for the 1333B thread locker - medium strength. Threebond has more flavors than Loctite, the red is the closest Loctite equivalent.

              Oh, yes they can...

FWIW, if you get new bolts, they come with a pinkish threadlocker goop already in place. They're specially hardened and an oddball length.

                Speaking from experience?

Looks like red it is. Definitely don't want them coming out @ 60mph.

                Thanks for the advice.
