Thanks Larry D & tlepac! I checked out the other year parts pictures and it looks like what I need.
That alpha-sports link is much quicker to navigate than babbitts.

Hey everyone, thanks again. That seller must've shipped it right after I won the auction, because it arrived today.
Just a couple questions. There is a segment on the rear that looks like it is missing a part, but I can't be sure because I don't see it in the parts diagram (http://alpha-sports.com/spst/1977%20GS750/01.gif)
Also the boots appear to be loose. Should I push them past that last rubber ring, or are they supposed to be affixed another way?
Everything else looks in order from what I can tell. At least all of the parts that I see in that diagram.

05-29-2009 10:30 AM Dan Ruddock It's missing the snorkle which is important. Dan82 GS850L - The Original http://s224.photobucket.com/albums/d...ePics067-1.jpg

Sorry, I'm newbie, and I don't know what the snorkel you're referring to is. I don't see it on the parts list either, so I guess I'm missing something. Is that not a part I can buy separately?

I can confirm this is the right box for a 77-79 gs 750 or 850 (possibly 1100 also)
you seem to be missing the side covers (pic http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Suzuki-GS850-GS-850-airbox-air-box_W0QQitemZ140324417870QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorc ycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20abfcb14e&_trksi d=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A12|39%3A1|72%3A1205 |240%3A1318
) and you're also probably missing the large gaskets for the side covers.
I wasn't able to find a good picture of the snorkel. it also looks like it can't be bought separately. I hate to say this but you may need to buy an entirely different airbox.
You just push the boots back in. There should be small lip on the boot that the metal of the box sits in between. Also there are round nubs on the outer part of the lip that need to be aligned with small dots on the airbox. Also, if the boots are not soft and squishy replace them asap, because they will not seal properly. It costs about $40 a set.
Don't forget to replace the filter, and make sure you oil it.
This box is an extremely vital part of the engine system, without it being totally sealed and put together correctly, your bike will run like crap. I know from experience. Sealing my side covers with rubber weather stripping and replacing the old boots made a HUGE difference in the way my bike ran.
Good luck with yours.

It has sidecovers. This snorkel thing is a bummer. Guess I'll try finding that piece and buy another whole unit if that fails. Thanks.
