Found starter problem, have a few ?????
Took the rotor cover off and the rotor was still on there by 1 thread on the bolt. Everything looks Ok, I had bought the bike off a friend after it sat 9 years in the garage. It ran when he laid it up. My questions is can I put this back together Ok with Locktite? I read the post on locking the rotor. It doesnt make sense to me that Suzuki didnt put a key in the end of the crank to help hold the rotor on. This is a 17000 mile 1 owner 1980 Gs1100e that was never abused at all. It doesnt appear to have hurt the crank or anyhting else, The starter just quit working while I was trying to get it started after going thru the carbs. Starter was fine the rotor was spinning. What is the torque on the rotor nut ?Tags: None

There's a free manual at BassCliff's site that tells you to torque to 115 -123 ft-lb
As for procedure and locktiting, Search for starter clutch and Ray has given us his knowledge of how to reassemble the rotor.
Don't forget to have a washer on each side of the idler gear before you slip the cover back on1978 GS 1000 (since new)
