    Gs 1000 id

I have bought what I believe to be 1979 GS1000E. The frame # is 519041, the motor # is 127768. It came to me without carbs, sidecovers and a seat.I have been slowly getting parts off ebay. Yesterday I bought this set of carbshttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=120427635072

When I go to Z1 for carb kits I find thishttp://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=502

What gives??? Did the 79 L and the 79 E use different carbs?

First of all, forget about the carb kits. Instead, go to cycleorings.com and order a VM carb O-ring kit and get new O-rings for your rubber intake boots. You may still need float bowl gaskets so keep this in mind.

Regarding the L model carbs being different, it may be a case of minor jetting differences. You might want to look in the service manual, or the parts fishe to see what specific differences there are.

Frame number stacks up - it is indeed a 79 EN (about no 3500 off the line). Carbs will fit, just check out the jet sizes against the specs:

      Bore Size 26
      Float Height 23 ~ 25
      Fuel Level 3 ~ 5

      Cut-Away 1.5
      Jet Needle 5DL36-3
      Needle Jet O-4
      Main Air Jet 1.5
      Main Jet #95
      79 GS1000S
      79 GS1000S (another one)
      80 GSX750
      80 GS550
      80 CB650 cafe racer
75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father
