    low gas

Oh, by the way...do ride it in RES to the nearest gas station and fill it up. Then try running it in RUN before you do any of the stuff in my post above. Tom's right...you may be underestimating the height of the standpipe. What looks like 1/2 a tank to you could still uncover that pipe.

      +1 on that thought...

Visually, there always appears to be plenty of gas in the tank even when you're out of fuel.

        Well..

The mystery has been solved. I'm going to have to nominate myself for "dumb ass of the year", as like some of you said, it ended up being a simple matter of not enough gas in the tank. I originally discounted that theory because I remembered adding fuel to the bike at some point in time. But, I was later reminded by my son that for some reason, I siphoned that gas out of the tank. These last 3 weeks have been trying, as prior to getting the 650 running I installed a car alternator on my 1200 Goldwing. I guess that my mindset was that of expecting to have problems, not looking at the big picture. Both are up and running and now it's hopefully time to ride. Thanks again for all of the help. I couldn't have done it without each of you..

Did you use Poorboy's kit or somebody else's?

I used the Poorboy kit. I'm quite the novice, so it wasn't exactly a walk in the park, but it works very well. 14.5 Volts and 55 amps. Trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it..

Nominees for that title have to go far beyond you're little mistake. You might qualify for "Dumbass of the Week."

Like the time I spent hours tracing wires and connections because the starter would not engage. I had it all taken apart before I realized this one had the clutch switch still in place and you had to pull in the clutch to start it.

I think we've all been there.

D.A. of the year probably goes to that guy that guy that poured energy drink into his gas tank.
