Replacing rear sproket
If I counted right my rear sprocket has 50 or 52 teeth (GS550E) and it seems to be wound pretty tight at 70 mph in 6th gear. I would like to replace it with a smaller rear sprocket to get a little bit more top cruising speed and let the engine run a little bit easier so do any of you have a suggestion on the size of sprocket? Also what size is the chain supposed to be?

You didn't count right, if you did, it would be either 50 or 52 teeth, not both. 1st suggestion would be a repair manual. It will tell you a lot about your bike. I think it's a 520 chain, and stock gearing is about as good as it gets, except for drag racing, etc.1983 GS1100E, 1983 CB1100F, 1991 GSX1100G, 1996 Kaw. It does say 50 or 52 teeth.

Now that is some nice looking sprockets, almost a shame to get those oily.

Guess I'll just leave it like it is. On another note, it seems strange to see just 85 mph top end on a speedometer. Thanks for the info guys.

Its a small ujm it needs to and is meant to turn fast. Dont worry about it. I think the revs sound cool on inline 4's. my opinion.
