    no start

my 84 1150 es with only 13,000 miles is starting to not crank over on the first try after i ride for a while. it happened 2 times now. the first time it was ok on the 2 nd try and the next week it took 3 times. it makes no sound at all. cold is good and when it does crank over everything is normal. im thinking starter brushes or the starter button switch ? got home and ovecorse it worked 5 times in the driveway. when it did this the second time i tried to see if the clutch switch was acting up but it did not matter. sure would be happy if i only need to clean the contacts on the starter button. that did the trick on the rear brake light last summer.

It's not a lot of work to bypass the clutch switch in the headlight bowl - just unplug it & plug the 2 connectors back in (if it's the same as the earlier bikes).

This would at least rule that out of the equation....

Thinking of doing an Angeles Crest Hwy in 2 Sundays time... Will put a post up on here... you up for that?

Good luck with the bike. Intermittent faults are always a pain!

            Starter

I think your problem is with the starter. When it heats up, the armature expands and is more difficult to turn over. If it turns over well when cold and it's difficult when it's hot, that's a great clue. Do some searches; rebuilding it is really easy.

It is father's day... Maybe we better stay away from that then. Perhaps Sat would work better for everyone.
