    Tank Rust protection

I have a dripping petcock and it's off the bike while I wait for a new one. The tank is pretty clean but I don't want rust to develop.

Do I need to do anything to the tank if it sits empty for a week?

    Thanks!

    Plastic bag with some desiccant?

    Put a little oil inside?

Store it in a dry location?

You mean squirt a little motor oil in there, or WD 40?

WD-40 actually makes things rust, not sure why but it does. It will keep it OK for a short time but after several months there will be rust where a bare surface would have had none.

I actually wouldn't worry about it in that short time frame unless you live in a humid environment, or have a tank that is leaning toward rusting already.

Can you store it indoors in a dry place with a constant warm temperature so condensation does not occur??

Cover the petcock hole and fill it with gas?

I leave tanks empty all the time in the garage and they are fine, but I live in a very dry climate.
