Vavle adjustment, Kawasaki versus Suzuki
A friend of a friend needs to adjust valves on his KZ1000. What is different between that and a GS850 for adjusting those valves, other than shim diameter? The Motion Pro Kawasaki tool is a lot different than their Suzuki tool.sigpic[Tom]

Procedure is basically the same, but, as you mentioned, the shims are smaller diameter (by .5mm) and the clearances are different.

There are two tools for changing the shims on the Kawasaki.
The Motion Pro tool is a mini prybar with a bat shaped wedge.
You use the pry bar to force the bucket down, then use the wedge to hold the bucket down while changing the shim.
The OEM tool is very different, it clamps on the lip of the cylinder head and holds the bucket down.
Clearances should be between 2 and 6 thou on the KZ - usually you want to set the clearances between 3.5 and 5.5 - and never set under 3 thou.

You might have a little more experience with the KZ1000 (KZ1200?), all my experience is with the 1300s, and their clearances were .006 for the intakes and .010 for the exhausts, so all I will say to Themess is ... make sure what clearance you are shooting for.
