    mirror thread size?

Everything I have read states the thread size on mirrors is 10mm standard. However I have a 10mm standard bolt that will not fit. The diameter looks right but thread pitch seems off. I have a 81 GS450LX. Anyone know what size I need?

If it's not standard it can only be 1.25 or 1mm fine..... That's the same as a brake Banjo. Are you sure your bolt is standard thread & 10mm metric? It could be a 3/8"? Imperial - they look identical.

Where did you GET the mirror? Yammaha in their infinite wisdom saw fit to reverse thread one side on the mirrors. If you managed to pick one of those up, that MIGHT be your problem....

You need to measure the pitch of the threads. It should be 1.25 or 1.5mm I would think. Count the thread over a given distance and then do the maths and there you have the answer.

          10 mm

Yeah, 10mm is correct but some of the Yamaha mirrors have LH threads on the RH mirrors. I wouldn't be concerned about the bolt not fitting the mirror threads because a regular, Japster, non-RH-Yamaha mirror should work just fine.

              It's 1.25mm pitch X 10mm diameter.

Most bolts that size you'll find are 1.5mm pitch, intended for American and European cars. Asian cars and bikes use 1.25mm pitch. (Suzuki brake banjos are 1mm pitch, though.)

A quick way to check pitch is to see if the thread pitch on an 8mm bolt is the same -- they're all 1.25mm.

WRT thread pitch, the terms "standard" "fine" "course" "extra-fine" and so on are variable and thus meaningless.
