    its just a little question

    i am having problems with my 82 850 l when i am on a highway it seems like ite motor if slightly faiding in and out like i am letting off the throttle and getting back into it a hair now its nuthing to write home about but i do notice it a little bit any ideas ponderings or replies?

    You're lean in one of the carb circuits. Its commonly referred to as "the lean staggers", or surging. If you say your cruising, my bet is the pilot/needle transition is most likely where you are having trouble. Try turning your adjustment screws out another half turn. Should help. Or, you can also shim the needle, but this is a little more involved (although recommended anyway, as it helps to get rid of that "flat spot" right around 6K RPM) Try the adjustment screws first, if that doesnt help, come back, and we'll guide you on how to shim the needles...

      when you say adjustment screw do you mean the one on the side facing the motor i think its called the air mixture screw?god would i just love to drop it off to one of you guys and say have at it sometimes i get frustrated screwing with it

            True, but you also dont have 987345980499854-985 bikes in your garage that HAVE to be worked on. At least this way, i can work while he is in route. Give him a hand. then get back to work.

              Check fuel flow from petcock. Are you using a fuel filter?

                You can also get this from a dirty air filter or a badly routed carb vent tube.

                Lean surge is more likely at this stage, since you probably haven't messed with the idle mixture screws.
