    won`t start

I replaced my stock LH controls`79 GS 1000E with the LH control from a GS 750. I installed the connector from the Stock controls Onto the Gs750 Lh controls. I wanted to get rid of the self-canceling signal unit and add a turnsignal switch with a center detent. I got everything hooked up started the bike and it worked. The signals finally worked, the horn and the lights.
The lights were on steady til I started the bike then they would flicker as the engine ran. The headlight Hi low beam switch worked. I switched the bike off and tried to start it again nothing. No click from the starter, no lights either. The only thing I get is the neutral light and the oil light come on when the ignition is turned on. the bike will start if I short the starter solenoid, but the lights, horn,or turnsignals don`t work. All fuses are good.Any Ideas?

I would check the starter button wiring from the right switch you ,may have pulled a wire loose, also check the clutch lever switch

I checked the start button it is ok. I do remember removing the clutch switch and splicing the wires together. I may have disconnected them when I put the LH controls back through the steering head. I will check tomorrow. I hope that is the problem.

I am not certain of your bike, but the norm for horns is that they are constantly live, and work by grounding at the switch, while everything else works by having live current run through the switch.

Because of that, and the fact that the bike starts when you short the starter, I would say it sounds like a faulty switch, but more likely it is faulty wires or connections leading into the switch.

Check all your wiring work, especially your power connections inside the headlight.
