    Air box removal ('78 GS550)

I'd like to remove the air box from my 78 GS550 and install four K&N pod filters. Will I need to make any adjustments to the carbs for air flow or should it be fine as is?

    Welcome !!!

Don't forget to visit BikeCliff's site too.

Yes, you will need to re-jet the carbs due to the increased air flow. There is a search feature in the upper right corner. Use it and type in jetting, re-jetting or some such thing.
I hope you don't hurt your eyes reading the 40 bijillion posts....

You have vm22 carbs so you won't be buying any dynojet kits. The CV carbs people say are a huge pain the rear but the VM carbs are much more friendly.

The only places I know of that you can buy the main jets for our vm22 is jetsrus and on ebay. If you do go this route please update because I would like to know how it goes for you.

Easy enough to dial the carbs in on a '78 - bigger mains, lift the needles and play with the fuel / air screws (no need for bigger pilot jets). Make sure that when you buy the pods you get the measurements correct - a lot of them foul the frame on the 550 (on nos 1 and 4) and won't fit.
