    steering head bearings 82 750

    OK, I'm looking at BikeBandits' schematics and am not sure what parts I need to order. Can anyone help with what I need? Steering is notchy, almost went down.

        if you are willing , you can do it. I know several people have posted tricks and traps on this subject.

        Other than standard hand tools you Will need a way to get the lower race out of the frame. I made a tool out of a long curved tool. Others claim that welding a bolt across the race is easiest.

        Next issue will be getting the race off of the bottom of the triple. A small cutting disk with a Dremal tool will make short work of it.

        Use PVC pipe and the old races to drive the new back on.

        Use the manual to figure out how to get your front end off.

        Yea a tutorial would be nice, but not too hard.

        All Ball Bearing are good and can be had off of E-bay.

        and put some grease in there this time and make sure you adjust the head tension so you don't get any wobble.

          when removing the race from the fork, it helps to heat it with a propane torch. Carefully heat just the race, it will expand!

            Go for it. These guys can talk you through it. It might take an afternoon.....It could take 3 days. Having a good well lite work area with a solid bench and some tools is key. If you attempt it Id say go through the forks and at least flush the brake fluid as youll be crossing paths with those components when you do the head bearings. That means having Grease, Fork oil, Brake fluid, Cleaning solution (mineral spirits) and a bunch of rags.

            I had to run for reinforcement when I tried to pull the lower race off the stem. The dude at the yamerdog shop poped it off for me ($20) but it was worth not having to fight that fight.

              Update: I found a guy who lives 4 minutes from me who works out of his garage. He replaced the bearings and bled my brakes. It took him a couple hours and I cannot believe the difference.

              The lower races were shredded, probably since I got the bike. My mechanic said the lock nut had been tightened to compensate. It rides sooo much better now, I had no idea how nice it could be.
