79 GS850G. The is a small diameter hose coming from the starter that goes to a small 'port', for lack of a better word, beside the starter casing, on the engine. The wires come out of the starter as well but this is clearly a hose, small maybe 1/4". I've looked in my manuals and found no reference to it. Can someone tell me what it is and what it does..thanks...If I can get the camera working I'll take a photo.

Its the magic hole... Designed to drain off any water or what have you that may get under the starter cover and lay in its bay. Goes nowhere, but to air..

Sounds like the vent for the secondary reduction gear chamber.

Bingo. It's just an air vent for the secondary gears.

The hose runs under the starter and into the Mystery Hole under the starter.

However, if oil is leaking from your Mystery Hole, it's normally just the o-ring around the nose of the starter. Easy and cheap fix.
