Wheel Size

I have a 17in rim on 1100g (rear). It is damaged, dealer who installed tire said it was ok if it would balance. However, I received a 16in rear wheel from a very generous GSR member. I did not think the 1" would make that much of difference. My thinking was a good wheel was better than bent even if it was smaller.

What do you all think? (boy thats's a loaded question).

I don't care what size tires and rims you put on your bike!
I think its a good question to start an arguement!

Many of the bikes, notably the L models, came with a 16" rear wheel, so that should not be a problem at all.

On the plus side, it might be a slightly wider wheel, so if you want a 130 rear tire, it will be a good mount.

I alternate between 16" and 17" rear rims on my bike. Stock is 16 but right now I run a 17.

If the tire you end up with has the same installed height it might not matter, however a 16 inch wheel with a taller tire will flex more than a 17 inch rim with a lower profile one.

16 inch tires are a little cheaper, and there seems to be more variety in the smaller size, might be better to run a 16.

"Grandpa" switched between 16" and 17" rims all the time on his bikes, and never had a problem. The difference is hardly perceptible in any way.

Just make sure the brake rotor lines up and go for it.
