    turn signals

I have a 1980 GS850 and I changed my turn signal sockets in the front only so they are running lights and turn signals. They work fine except when using the turn signals the brake light blinks ever so slightly. Any ideas?

my head light does too ??? is it actually blinking or dimming from the intermittant power draw?

      running lights

I didn't realize it my headlight and taillight are both doing it and it does appear it might just be a power draw and not slightly blinking.

Do your lights dim with the bike revved over 2,000 rpm? I can see why they'd do it at idle, because you are running off your battery. If they do it when your reg/rec should be supplying the juice to run your lights (over 2K rpm), then you have other issues.

By the way, welcome to the site. I have your bike's big brother, a 1980 GS1000G. I recently changed the front signals on mine to running lights as well. I'm going to go to the garage right now and see if I observe what you describe is gonig on with your bike. I'll get back to you in a minute.

I live in Danville, only 45 miles away from Bloomington. In fact, I rode through Bloomington twice yesterday. There are several GSers in the Indianapolis area, and we all love to help folks with their bikes. If you need help with anything, let me know.

Well, I just checked both my 1000G and my 700ES out. They both do the same thing yours does with the turn signals on and the engine off or at idle. The effect is still present when the engine is revving, but only barely noticeable. You have to be looking to see it.

I'm not too worried about it.

When I first saw this, I thought to myself, "When the heck did he move to Indiana, and why didn't he tell us Hoosier GSers he was here?".

Then I saw the post count, and figured it out.

I hadn't checked mine when the bike was running, just did it today. If like yours you can barely notice it I won't worry either. thanks for the offer of help, I may need it sometime. My son also has a 79 850.

the snap of the light turning on drains the battery just a little bit and then is off before the regulator can increase output. that is why they dim, nothing is wrong its just not super responsive
